Are you the type of person who still has all of your old toys at your parents' house?! Well if this is you, Mattel wants to take those old toys off your hands and recycle them. The toy company is launching a pilot program called "Mattel PlayBack" that is designed to recover and reuse materials in old toys for future Mattel products. This program is an effort for Mattel to take a step toward a sustainability-focused future. You can participate in the program by visiting Mattel's website, print the free shipping label and packing and mail the toys back to the company. Once Mattel receives the toys, it will be sorted and separated by material type and processed and recycled. According to Mattel, if the materials can't be repurposed as recycled content in new toys, it will either be downcycled into other plastic products or converted from waste to energy. As of right now, the company is accepting Barbie, Matchbox and MEGA toys before adding other brands later on.
