John Legend Talks "A Legendary Christmas," Family Time, and More!

John Legend truly puts the legend in his own name as he is a man of many talents, a singer, a loving father and husband, EGOT winner, judge on The Voice, and of course 2019 People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive. John stopped by to talk to Valentine in the Morning all about his Christmas album "A Legendary Christmas," balancing work and family life, his crazy night at Universal Studios Horror Nights, and so much more!

John released his very first Christmas album last year called "A Legendary Christmas" and this year he decided to release the deluxe version of the album with 4 new songs. One song off of the album that's been getting a lot of buzz lately is his duet with his fellow Voice judge Kelly Clarkson on "Baby It's Cold Outside." The duet features updated lyrics that John wrote with comedy writer Natasha Rothwell.

"We just wanted to have some fun and do a new version. Of course, it attracted some controversy because people thought we were trying to ruin Christmas by Me Tooing the lyrics. I think people just need to lighten up. It's a new version, we have new versions of everything all the time. We just thought it would be fun to do a new version and a few people freaked out, but most people are chill. I had a blast! I loved singing with Kelly and working with Natasha on the lyrics, she's really funny. I think the new update is actually really funny and a lot of fun for us to perform. Kelly and I sing well together, it really works."

The holidays are already here considering Thanksgiving is already next week and Christmas will be here before we know it. John is just like the rest of us gearing up for it.

"We've already made plans for what we're going to do and i'm excited for Thanksgiving. We have family coming over here to Southern California. We're going to hang out with them, everyone is coming in from Ohio, Nevada, and everywhere our family is and that'll be fun. For Christmas, we're going to go up to Jackson Hole and chill. I love family time for the holidays, it's something we look forward to every year and our birthdays are right around the holidays too so everything is wrapped up in one celebrating with family. We have a good time."

During the holiday season, it's truly the greatest time of year as you make so many memories with your loved ones. John's favorite memory about the holidays is how important music is to all of them.

"Music was so central to our Christmases because my whole family sings. We would go to my grandmother's house and we would sit around the piano at the end of the day. The most important part of our time together was us singing around the piano. That's the most warm memory I have growing up and that's what made me want to make this Christmas album."

John and his wife Chrissy Teigen are both very busy and they are just like the rest of us trying to figure out how to balance both work and family life. The couple has two kids Luna who's 3 years old and Miles who is 1.

"Sometimes we don't succeed, sometimes I get too busy and i'm traveling too much and i'm not able to be home as much as i'd life to. It's just a juggling thing that we have to talk to our folks, the people that are in charge of our schedules to make sure we set aside enough time to be with the family and be with the kids. I actually had a weekend off this past weekend. It was really nice, I did nothing and the only time I left the house was to take Luna to dance class. It's been a few weeks in a row where I was traveling on the weekends doing gigs, but it's nice to be home. We need that time.

When they do manage to get that family time together and they are in the car, Luna has a personality of her own with her music requests.

"Luna requests a lot of music, she loves daddy and Ariana Grande. She was introduced to Ariana when I did the duet with her for Beauty & the Beast so she started loving everything Ariana does. Luckily, we enjoy Ariana too and if we didn't it would be tough in the car because Luna requests her a lot."

One story that we needed to get to the bottom of was John "wine drunk" singing at Universal Studios Horror Nights. Chrissy originally posted the video of John wearing a onesie with his face on it while singing "All of Me" to himself. She captioned the video, "John got wine drunk and sang a song at universal studios last night. The whole joke was supposed to be that literally no one was watching or at the stage but then he got on stage and was like IT'S ME JOHN LEGEND."

However, when John posted the video on Instagram the story had different piece of information to the story saying, "We went to Universal Studios last night to do Horror Nights before they shut it down. Costume theme was onesies. We bought a few new ones and raided the closet too and found the perfect one for me to wear. Someone made Chrissy a onesie with my face on it and of course I had to wear it. Then I found a reluctant DJ with a mic and serenaded myself. It was a night." We need to know what really went down that night and John told us the whole story.

"I have my own wine brand LVE and we had a few drinks. We brought it with us in our little party bus and brought a few friends over to Universal. By the time the video was taken, I had a few and it wasn't a bad drink, it was a nice drunk. It was like an i'll sing on stage randomly drunk, but not an i'm messy drunk. I got up there and the whole joke of the night was that we were all wearing onesies. Someone had given Chrissy a onesie that had my face on it and it said I Love and my face and we thought of course no one else should wear this but me because it would be funnier if I wore it. As we were passing this DJ stage, Chrissy was like oh my god you should go up there and sing. Of course, me being highly suggestable in that moment because of the wine. I went up on that stage and I decided to change the lyrics to "All of Me" to "All of me loves all of me. That was our night."

The last time we saw John, we were campaigning for him to become People Magazine's Sexiest Man Alive because he was the only Voice judge that was given that title yet. He really showed Blake Shelton and Adam Levine because now he's this year's Sexiest Man Alive.

"I teased Adam and Blake because they would always tease me about all the awards I've won and everything. They would say the only one you haven't won which both of them had won was Sexiest Man Alive. I said well now that i'm on The Voice that's the key to getting it because obviously it worked for you guys. Now I got it. Blake celebrated with me and I thanked him because I sit next to him everyday and told him that his sexiness must've rubbed off on me. I learned all of your sexy ways that you have and it rubbed off on me."
