Mariah Carey is set to received an impressive honor at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards next month.

The "We Belong Together" singer will return to the VMAs for the first time in 20 years to receive the Video Vanguard Award, an achievement presented to artists for their contributions and impact on music videos and pop culture, per Deadline.

Past artists to receive the honor include Rihanna, Missy Elliott, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Nicki Minaj, to name a few. Last year's recipient was Katy Perry, who soared through the air in a gravity-defying performance before giving a moving speech encouraging new artists to stay true to their art and who they are.

According to a press release, in addition to accepting the award, Carey will perform a "show-stopping, career-spanning medley of her biggest hits," People reports. She will join other artists taking the stage throughout the night, including Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, sombr, J Balvin and more.

Hosted by LL Cool J, who Carey presented the Video Vanguard Award to in 1997, the 2025 MTV VMAs air live Sunday, September 7, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT from UBS Arena in New York.

Mariah Carey will be taking over the stage at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Festival presented by Capital One on September 19 and 20 in Las Vegas. Fans can tune in to the music mega even all weekend as it will be broadcast live each night via iHeartMedia radio stations throughout the country across more than 150 markets. Hulu will be the Official Streaming Destination of the festival, with performances livestreamed each night exclusively to all Hulu subscribers.
