Miley Cyrus Gets 'Freedom' Tattoo Ahead Of Would-Be Wedding Anniversary

Miley Cyrus is feeling free as a bird with her latest tattoo.

Over the weekend, the “Malibu” singer showed off some new ink she received by Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Winter Stone. In a set of photos the tattooist posted on his personal Instagram account on Sunday (December 8), Cyrus can be seen flaunting her left fist, now with the word “freedom” freshly scrawled above her knuckles in fancy cursive font.

Sparking speculation as to what the tattoo symbolizes, some fans believe the tatt was inspired by Cyrus’ song “Mother’s Daughter,” in which she sings, “So don’t f—k with my freedom.” However, it's just as possible the ink serves as the pop star’s emancipation from her marriage to Liam Hemsworth, who filed for divorce from the musician back in August. The tattoo also has significant timing, as it appears just weeks before what would have been the pair’s first wedding anniversary. As fans know, the stars married in a low-key wedding on December 23, 2018, before separating eight months later.

In response to cheating allegations, Cyrus took to social media to clear the air about her separation from the Hunger Games star. "The truth is, once Liam & I reconciled,I meant it, & I was committed," she tweeted at the time. "There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP. … I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade. I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will."

Since moving on, Cyrus has held a brief relationship with reality star Kaitlynn Carter and remains romantically involved with Australian crooner Cody Simpson.
