'Bachelor' Alum Falls Ill In Dominican Republic As 10th US Tourist Dies

This is so scary!

Bachelor alum Melissa Rycroft fell ill during a family trip to the Dominican Republic as reports surfaced of a tenth U.S. tourist dying while vacationing on the Caribbean island. Rycroft was traveling with her husband Tye Strickland, as well as their three children, when she became sick.

Shortly after arriving at the Nickelodeon Hotels & Resorts Punta Cana, Rycroft began experiencing severe stomach cramps, vomiting and low blood pressure. Doctors aren't sure what caused Rycroft's mysterious illness, though they've tested the Bachelor star for parasites and are waiting on the test results.

Rycroft has been keeping her followers updated on Instagram. After initially sharing she was being tested for parasites, she revealed on Wednesday (June 19) she was going to have further blood testing done, as well.

Since June 2018, 10 tourists from the U.S. have died from mysterious illnesses while traveling in the Dominican Republic. In one particularly disturbing case, an otherwise healthy couple were both found dead in their hotel room at the Grand Bahia Principe La Romana after failing to check out on time. Reynold A. Panettieri Jr, a toxicology specialist, told People "healthy people don’t just die. And the couple dying at the same time certainly tips us off that something is very wrong."

The FBI is assisting the Dominican Government as they investigate the tourist deaths. One possible line of inquiry is a tainted batch of bootleg liquor served in hotel mini bars across the Dominican Republic.
